QUESTiON:
My husband and I have been offered a renewal
grant which will allow us to tour the PCH
starting in N.Cali to San Diego courtesy of
our employer. Neither of us have been to
Calif. before (born and raised on the east coast),
we not sure where to begin creating an itinerary.
I was hoping that within your web ring, someone
has previously offered advice or suggestions of
where and how to begin exploring the PCH.
We have only a week, therefore, would like to
see the most interesting and classic sites of
interests. We need to submit an itemized list
of points of interest and expenses for this trip
before we go. I've browsed many web sites
but it's a bit overwhelming and I'm still left
unsure of what we should and shouldn't see.
Can you please point me in the
right direction?
ANSWER:
To start on Pacific Coast Highway from
Northern California. It depends on
your timeframe that you are starting since..
Winter is coming soon and it is
very hard to travel in the Winter
because of the road condition.
The place to start is from of San Francisco.
You can tour San Francisco and
drive down 280 or Highway one to Santa
Cruz and then to Monterey and
Carmel.
In Monterey you can visit the Monterey
Bay Aquarium .. THe biggest Salt
Water aquarium in the world...
In Carmel you can visit the Mission Carmel,
17 Miles drive, etc.. which is one of the
oldest in California... Missions
and Spanish influence in California
is part of historical culture of California.
From Carmel, you can drive on Highway
one down to Big Sur if weather
permited. Big Sur is famous for natural
and nature ..... Hearst Castle is
on the coast south of Big Sur.
Morro Bay is on the coast that is famous
for the big rock... You can from this
point go back in to inland and visit
another Mission at San Luis Obispo ..
There are lots of beaches between that
you can stop in and visit......
One of the spot you might
want to consider is to drive Highway
101 to Solvang which is famous for
the Dutch style small
town village.... You can go back out on
Highway 101 and then down to Santa
Barbara... Of course, there is another
Mission there too.... The pier and
the hotels along the beaches are
famous for their Mediterranean style.
From Santa Barbara .. you will pass
Ventura county which is famous for
Beaches and surfing.. From Ventura then
you are in Los Angeles county and
depends on whether you want to stay
and visit the beaches area or go to the
typical tourist places such as Hollywood,
Rodeo Drive, Universal studio,
Disneyland etc.. Of course, our web site
showed you all the beaches that
are in the Los Angesles and San Diego area...
This is only a brief and a short list of
point of interest for tourists...
QUESTiON:
I am planning a vacation in August of
this year with my 2 children.
We will be coming from St. Louis and
visiting my family(recently moved to San Pablo, CA).
We are wanting a beach not far from
San Francisco with a kid friendly
atmosphere. Do you have any suggestions?
We'd rather not drive more than an
hour or two at the most.

You are very welcome. Actually, North
of San Francisco also great for touring.
If you have a couples of hours, you can
tour Alcatraz by boat. (The prison island)
You cross the Golden Gate Bridge and
you can go to Sausalito, a floating
House-boat town with artist colony...
Mt. Tamapais and Stinson Beach is nearby...
Muir Woods with 1000 years old Redwood
trees and then in San Francisco itself there
are tons of tourist places to visit...
Down south you can tour the high tech
Museums, one is also open for tour
for free, that is Intel Museum.. ..
Once you get to San Francisco, you
might not want to leave LOL..
But you might want to check the
famous beaches down south of
San Francisco...
Santa Cruz is excellent with children..
There is a Broadwalk with old fashion
amuzement rides, roller coaster etc...
right on the beach. In the summer
there is a FREE oldies music concert
on Friday night.
There are various kind of beaches there... ..
It is also great for surfing or to watch
the surfer. Santa Cruz is about an hour
down on Hiway 1 from San Francisco...
Highway 1 is kind of a little isolated.
But you will have several other beaches
along the way, Pacifica, Moss Beach
Half Moon Bay etc...
You can also come down on
Highway 101 and then Highway 17
to Santa Cruz .. then it will be about
an hour and a half... Monterey Bay
is another 30 minutes away from Santa Cruz
It has the largest Salt Water
Aquarium in the world...
Up North of San Francisco there are
different kind of beaches ..
there are redwoods trees at Mt. Tamaipais
and beaches are less crowded...

Question:
My girlfriend and I are planning a vacation
in San Diego this Summer and we would
like some down to earth infomation on
beaches and inexpensive
lodging. We want to spend our days
sunbathing and nights partying with
young singles. We are 20 and 21.
So..........where would you suggest we
look for the most value for our buck?
Please let me know of your recommendations
and/or resources in that area.
Baja California is okay if that is cheaper.
Thank you in advance
QUESTiON:
I would like to drive from San Diego
up to San Francisco on
Pacific Coast Highway.
When is the good time to do so.
ANSWER:
April is a good time.. The only unforseeable
problems could be the April Shower...
otherwise it is already nice and warm.
Did you check out our hotel & Bed
and Breakfast web page?
http://pc-hwy.com/pchwy/bestbdbf.html
If you start in San Diego you will enjoy
the warm southern cal weather and
hospitality there.. Hotel Coronado is great ..
it is on Coronado island...
IT is expensive though...
Read up on the Southern Cal page...

You will have so many beaches to visit
if you have time...
When you are in Santa Barbara..
north of Los Angeles..
this is one of a nice hotel:
http://www.cliffhouseinn.com/
In Central Coast you can try Madonna Inn
(Cheesy but very different)
Or the Apple Tree Hotel in San Luis Obispo..
(visit the Mission there) or Sycamore Spa
and Hotel in Avila Beach
When you drive up from Santa Barbara..
you can go on PC Hwy 1 or US Highway 101
(inland.. Lots of places to see -
vineyards, horse farms etc)
Be careful not to driving up north on PC HWY 1
in the evening after Morro Bay because
it is only 1 way and it is high on the cliff
looking down to the ocean
(on the mountain side) !!!
Once you are on PCHWY 1 from Morro Bay
you will be driving right along
the ocean until you get to Carmel and
Carmel Valley... You will pass Big Sur and
Hearst Castle in Cambia ... then you will get
in to Carmel area and Monterey, Santa Cruz
and up north to San Francisco...
To start on Pacific Coast Highway from
